More Reasons To Start Your Own Business

July 29, 2009

Anecdotal evidence indicates that layoffs are behind recent improved corporate earnings. Sales at many companies are not up, but expenses are down.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) July 29, 2009 -- Verizon announced that it will cut 8,000 jobs. Bank of America will close 600 branches, with Citigroup and Wells to follow. Airlines will continue to lower prices, book more online reservations and let go of expensive long-term employees that helped build the airlines.

Retail will lose tens of thousand of additional workers. Consumer spending will continue to fall as unemployment marches towards 10%. People will save more and buy less, a trend which affects businesses from car dealers to electronics stores to pool companies.

The recession and technology, which allow corporate entities to control their relationships with customers, drive enormous reductions in work force. This process, known as disintermediation, has plagued our economy since the proliferation of minicomputers and PCs more than 30 years ago. In my new book, Going from W2 to 1099, I say the following:

“I started writing about disintermediation more than ten years ago and was able to teach corporations about this concept before it became popular.

Basically, disintermediation is the process of getting the seller as close to the buyer in order to minimize the cost of the sale. To achieve this, one has to use technology to get the message to the buyer instead of using a middleman or salesperson which can become expensive.”

Disintermediation is a godsend for entrepreneurs. It allows us to craft innovative strategies and get them out to the marketplace with the unnecessary labor overhead which plagued our predecessors.

Now is a great time to start a new business. Embrace technology and use it to tell Corporate America to shove it.
