Stock market railed on Friday, January 16, 2004. Nasdaq showed its new 52-week high. Stocks rose on good Juniper Networks Inc. and General Electric Co. net income reports. Companies said quarterly net profit and sales rose, topping expectations. Indices showed its best result for the last few years.



The blue chips Dow Jones industrial average advanced 46.66 points (0.44 %) to 10,600.51. Dow Jones showed its highest close since March, 2002. The technology laced Nasdaq Composite rose 31.38 points (1.49%), to 2,140.46, its highest close since July 2001. The broader S&P 500 rose 7.78 points (0.69%) to 1,139.83.



Trading was active. About 1.7 billion shares changed hands on the New York Stock Exchange and about 2.6 billion shares were traded on Nasdaq.



The most active companies were Cisco Corp (+1.97), JNPR (+7.00), Microsoft (+0.27), Sun Microsystems (+0.03), JDSU (+0.70), Lucent tech (+0.14), General Electric (+1.35), Nortel networks (+0.49).



Juniper Networks (JNPR), +$7.00 (30.5%) to $29.93 one of most active Nasdaq issue, reported non-GAAP net income in the fourth quarter. Juniper provided a rosy outlook for 2004, and S.G. Cowen Securities and Merrill Lynch upgraded the company.



General Electric (GE), +$1.35 (4%) to $33.35, announced good fourth-quarter net income report. GE's chairman said GE is gathering momentum to produce earnings growth of at least 10 percent in 2005.



According to e-MasterTrade analytical forecast on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 S&P 500 will vary 1129.41-1150.05 and close at 1132.11-1146.15.



According to e-MasterTrade weekly forecast Dow Jones will vary 10344.90-10853.75, and close at 10426.96-10782.33.

Advanced Digital Information Corporation (ADIC) will vary 17.03-21.07, and close at 18.42-20.34.

ICOS Corporation (ICOS) will vary 36.71-45.51, and close at 37.99-44.37.
