Sue Randle from Lydd in Kent is the next artist to exhibit at Wealden House on the Lewes Road, East Grinstead in its beautiful paneled room. Sue opened her exhibition "The Legacy of Science" at the Private View last Saturday at 5pm.
The exhibition is open Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5.00pm with other times by appointment, and it runs until December 24th.
On display are oil paintings of such subjects as old steam locomotives and disused farm machinery. They contain unusual perspectives, strong contrasts and bold and colorful detail. "It is my endeavour to depict what I see as the poignancy and drama to be found in these vestiges of a vanishing age that are often overlooked and abandoned," says Sue.
Most of Sue's work is in oil but she occasionally works in gouache and in pen and ink with ink wash.
Sue studied at Dartington Art College in the 1970s and has worked
consitently ever since in a variety of media, both in the UK and on the Continent. She has also exhibited her work extensively. In 1986, she was a finalist in a national competition with her portrait of Buddy Holly and she recently took part in the South East Open Studios event. She is a member of the Romney Marsh Art Society and the Forge Art Society.
