On Saturday, December 4, Kings of Mexico performed as the first of three bands at the Art Bar, a club in downtown Columbia. The band promoted their appearance as a "Mary Kate Olsen Benefit Concert." Kings of Mexico couldn't complete the negotiations to get the remaining two bands on board for the benefit show, but with a response from a few local music supporters the band netted $125.00 in their first effort to help a celebrity in need. "I suppose there was just some sort of miscommunication between the bands, or whoever was in contact with each other, because I know that everybody playing that night sympathized with Mary Kate's situation. Maybe we dropped the ball?, " admits bassist Chris Blaisure. The band (Steve Klipowicz - vocals & guitar, Mike Sakoon - guitar, Daniel Wilson - drums, and Blaisure - bass) had prepared a forty-five minute set that would exemplify the kind of energy that they hoped to rally around their cause that night. Attendees confirm that their efforts were successful. When asked about the band's motivation for their show, guitarist Mike Sakoon confessed, "The Olsen Twins look so great as a team, but when half of that team seems so unhappy in all of the magazines, I think it's time that we all take a look in the mirror and ask ourselves what can we do to help them?"

The band plans to continue with new projects to raise awareness of the serious situations that exist for quite a few pop-culture icons. Kings of Mexico frontman Steve Klipowicz is hopeful that the band can continue to help celebrities with their unexpected expenses, "If we have to try to write an entire album to help Ashlee Simpson or Shaq in their time of need, then I'm ready to get into the studio and give back all that we make to help these people, financially."

Kings of Mexico was founded in 2003 by Steve Klipowicz and Mike Sakoon in a basement level apartment where they recorded their first songs while in college. Their album titled "The Walk Home" was completed and released to small distribution in April of 2004. The band continues to expand on new material and is seeking distribution for their debut album.
