"Visitors to our website can join our team named (Lifesavers)".
Many teams are being put together worldwide, to raise money to help those in need during a crisis.
Http://WWW.THEONLYDISH.COM is a full supporter of UNICEF. Our goal is to raise $10,000 and have over 100 people, public or private join our LIFESAVERS Team.
UNICEF has always worked in emergencies, including both natural disasters and conflict situations. Originally called the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, the organization was created in 1946 to provide humanitarian assistance to children living in a world shattered by the Second World War.
Over the years, UNICEF’s work has resulted in significant improvements for children and women affected by natural disasters and complex emergencies worldwide. Recent examples include:
Tsunami Crisis. From Indonesia to Somalia, the Indian Ocean tsunamis devastated the lives of millions of children and families. UNICEF's humanitarian relief work began immediately, providing safe water and basic sanitation, emergency immunizations to prevent deadly childhood diseases and special provisions for malnourished children and pregnant women. UNICEF’s efforts continue round-the-clock to protect children who have been orphaned or separated from their parents by this tragedy. And UNICEF is involved in the rehabilitation of schools to ensure the return of children to normalcy as soon as possible.
Conflict in Darfur. In Sudan’s western region, where more than a million people have been displaced by violence, UNICEF has established 127 health clinics and helped vaccinate 2 million children against measles and a million against polio. Thirty feeding clinics and 699 classrooms have been set up. UNICEF and its partners have also provided more than 800,000 people with access to safe water.
UNICEF is non-partisan and its cooperation is free of discrimination. In everything it does, the most disadvantaged children and the countries in greatest need have priority.
UNICEF's lifesaving programs are funded entirely by voluntary contributions. Staff and volunteers at the U.S. Fund for UNICEF raise money for those programs through donations, sales of UNICEF greeting cards and gifts, joint projects with non-governmental and corporate partners, and youth action campaigns such as Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.
U.S. Fund for UNICEF donors improve children's daily lives in the 158 countries and territories where UNICEF works — not just with food, water and medicine but with safety, peace and hope.
