SearchInform 1.1.02. A corporate tool for searching information.
One fact remains inevitably true: the number of times you've tried to find a stray document in numerous folders on the hard drive is countless. And the times you've wailed at the stupidity and helplessness of the search service embedded in Windows are uncountable. What is more, the speed and the effectiveness of this system tool leave much to be desired. In addition, the English versions of x98, XP and other such "windows" tend to completely ignore Russian word combinations that aspire to the slightest degree of complexity. Thus, the solution is known to be ineffective a priori. The returned result in almost all cases is null.
It gets only worse on the corporative level, where the information is normally stored in databases and various informational systems. Any attempt to find yet another report or a couple of documents of prime importance is doomed to failure. The way out has long been discovered: using ready-made solutions based on search technologies. Leaving the area of application of such technologies aside, their main task is processing various sources of information coupled with prompt and pin-point search in large volumes of information. The operation pattern of such search systems is, to a first approximation, fairly simple: searching by phrase with account of all synonyms and word forms.
However, in this case the crucial issue is the speed at which the query is processed and the result is returned. The fact of the matter is, searching by several words or a tiny phrase will never present an accurate picture of all documents that will be found. Searching by a longer phrase (such as half a document) in the existing applications takes too much time and consumes quite a large portion of computer resources. This results in a sort of dilemma: good speed at rather poor search quality; accurate and adequate results taking up heaps of time and hardware, as well as software resources. However, there is a way out...
