For_Immediate_Release:
Having followed the Schapelle Corby incident, BDi have patented the Luggage Passport and plan to license the idea to airlines and airport authorities and use some of the proceeds from the licensing to support those who are already wrongly imprisoned - Schapelle included.
The concept of the Luggage Passport is simple, to provide a document into which luggage weight information and other details can be recorded and kept to produce a chain of evidence that can go a long way to proving your innocence.
The basic elements of the system are simply these...
1) A passport style document into which evidence can be printed, written and verified. Weight information can prove innocence and that tampering occurred after check-in.
2) Space for storing photographs, receipts etc. These provide further evidence.
3) A Luggage Identification Number (LIN) can prove ownership.
4) The addition of RFID, or other devices to the passport as well as your bags means both can be registered as being on board an aircraft before departure. The presence of the passport and not the bags would alert the airline early.
5) The presence of unaccompanied bags would also be detected and they could be removed and returned to the correct flight - thereby making the “lost luggage” problem disappear.
BDi are happy to provide further information, a sample check list and other information to interested parties. Licensing of the concept is available globally and BDI would like to see the idea put into use quickly.
Contact BDi on their email address, bdi@sapo.pt and ask for more information on this and other luggage security and safety projects currently underway.
