With the recent and successful boom of the Romantica market—a combination of romantic and erotic fiction—it has been proven that readers everywhere are searching for stories told in their favorite genres, like Horror, Science Fiction, Fantasy and a host of others, but with an erotic twist and, typically, a romantic element added to it as well.
Throwing its hat into the romantic/erotic book arena is Coscom Entertainment with its new romance/erotic imprint, Sultry Heat Publications. The company launched its first title under the imprint on September 23, 2005, an anthology entitled, Provocative Notes, which was edited by multi-published author and editor Nancy Jackson.
Unlike most of the recent romance/erotic publishers to join the market, Sultry Heat Publications makes its books available in both paperback and eBook formats. Most romantic/erotic startups are only sticking to electronic book offerings.
“By offering the books in print and as eBooks, we say two things,” says Sultry Heat’s publisher A.P. Fuchs. “One, we want to reach the readers who prefer the printed word instead of eBooks and, secondly, that by investing in print books, we want to show the readers that the stories they are about to read are of the highest quality, as investing in a print book costs considerably more than investing in an electronic book, and if we are going to invest in a printed title, we want to make sure the company’s money is well spent and spent only on the best authors and storytellers the industry provides.”
What also sets Sultry Heat Publications apart from others out there is that the imprint offers erotic graphic novels in addition to its prose-only books. The graphic novels, albeit sexual, are meant to rekindle interest in the comic book medium and encourage readers to check out graphic novel offerings from other publishers as well. The first graphic novel, Progressions of Power by Robert Miles, is set to be published by Sultry Heat Publications on October 3, 2005.
Sultry Heat Publications’ titles are carried by the Ingram Book Group, Baker & Taylor, and Bertrams. More titles are scheduled for publication over the coming months as well as special offerings currently not available by any romance/erotic publisher out there.
