Fire Doors for Safety and Protection

The Great Fire of London of the year 1666 would not have been so great and would not have created a tragic history if only the Londoners had the privilege of our modern technology, such as Fire Doors. Fire doors are normal doors but with a twist in the tale. These are doors equipped with special fire resistant hardware. Not all doors are Fire doors, only those which undergo stringent laboratory tests and hold a testing laboratory certificate of standards adherence, qualify as fire doors.

Fundamentally they act as fire barriers between the fire affected and the relatively safer areas. They serve as a protection against fire and smoke during a fire emergency. It is important to understand that Fire Doors are not fire extinguishers. They are passive fire protection devices. They simply block away fire flames and smoke in a fire emergency as long as 240 minutes giving enough time for safe evacuation of the affected premises.

Fire doors should be used at places such as the exit doors of movie halls, theatres, indoor stadium, warehouses, etc. Fire Doors must also be present at entrances which lead to stairways, horizontal exits, hallways and four side enclosed rooms.
