Football Globe Germany is one of 48 projects which André Heller has selected for the Art and Cultural Programme of the German Federal Government to accompany the FIFA World Cup 2006™.
Following the resounding success of the Football Globe – 2006 FIFA World Cup™, which has since September 2003 visited nine of the 12 FIFA World Cup Cities during its tour through Germany and has been enjoyed by more than half a million visitors, the interactive light sculpture Football Globe Germany – 2006 FIFA World Cup™ is now heading for selected world cities.

The Football Globe Germany is an international ambassador mediating the sense of joyful anticipation in the run-up to the World Cup, based at premier sites in major world cities to publicize the Artistic and Cultural Programme, the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ itself, and the host nation Germany. In its function as a luminous symbol and communicative meeting point, the Football Globe Germany will carry with it enthusiasm for the football phenomenon and convey the joyful anticipation of the great World Cup event.

The tour will commence on October 3, 2005 at the German House (“D-Haus”) in Tokyo. Starting from the nation which hosted the last FIFA World Cup™ in 2002, as in November the Football Globe Germany will embark on a tour of three European cities before reaching Berlin on July 8, 2006 ready for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ opening ceremony.
