A young Yorkshire aviation entrepreneur is offering small to medium sized businesses a chance to see their advertising go sky-high – at down-to-earth prices.
Skipton based Andrew Harrison, who trained as a pilot, knew that jet liners flying round European hotspots are seen by tens of thousands of people as they land and take off at busy airports. And if people pay for advertising slots on buses, why not on jet airliners?
He made some enquiries and found himself in for a shock: to pay for a company to convert a popular aircraft like a Boeing 737 into a flying billboard would cost a staggering £350.000!
This is far beyond the advertising budget of even successful medium sized companies but Andrew had a brainwave: why not get a lot of companies to get together to buy space on the same plane?
The result: www.nameonaplane.com a website which offers the chance of getting their names in the sky for a fraction of the cost. By paying a small fee to put their company logo on the site, they will be entered into an auction to find the top twenty bidders who will each pay 5% of the highest bid to have their advertising on a custom sprayed jet.
Says Andrew: “Even on the web, the name will stand out amongst hundreds of similar sites because www.nameonaplane.com will also be painted on the aircraft. But to get your company airborne, at a fraction of the normal cost, makes it a great opportunity for small to medium sized companies which want to join the big boys.”
To offer even more benefit to smaller businesses, auction prices will be based on a company’s annual turnover. Later, he plans to throw the auction open to members of the general public who would like to send messages to their loved ones into the stratosphere by having the plane named after them. – the ultimate Valentine, perhaps.
