Lingotek Customers Praise Language Search Engine Technology
“SimulTrans is very excited about the release of Lingotek,” said Adam Jones, SimulTrans vice president and general manager. “The language search capabilities offered by this new tool will revolutionize the way our translators work and greatly expand their reference base beyond the narrow scope of text offered by translation memory applications. We look forward to seeing enormous benefits from Lingotek through reduced costs and increased consistency.”
“Lingotek has launched a tool that will maximize productivity, reduce error margin, decrease costs and improve all steps in the translation industry, including DTP,” said Betty Galiano, chief executive officer of Ocean Translations.
How Lingotek Works
Lingotek’s language search engine works similar to traditional search engines. The difference is that it indexes linguistic knowledge from a growing repository of multilingual content and language translations, instead of Web pages. Users can then access the language search engine’s robust database of previously translated material to find more specific combinations of words for reuse. Such meaning-based searching maintains better style, tone and terminology, saves time and money and establishes higher quality and more consistent translations.
“Lingotek was designed to help maximize productivity and quality in translated material through collaboration of previously translated material,” said Tim Hunt, CEO of Lingotek. “If someone on the other side of the world is translating a similar document using the same language, you will be able to search Lingotek and find relevant results within minutes after a paragraph is translated.”
Depending upon the size of the translation project at hand, translators can use Lingotek as an individual or divide a larger translation project into smaller pieces to allow multiple translators anywhere in the world to work on the same project at the same time. Lingotek also has a high level of built-in security similar to what the banking industry uses. Only individuals who have been granted access to any document or previous translations within Lingotek can see any of the information.
Lingotek runs completely within most popular Web browsers, including initial support for Internet Explorer and Firefox. Lingotek currently supports Word, Rich Text Format (RTF), Open Office, HTML, XHTML and Excel formats, allowing users to upload such documents directly into Lingotek.
