LOS ANGELES, Calif.—August 31, 2006. Columbia Pictures has partnered with Wahoo’s Fish Taco restaurants to co-promote the feature film Gridiron Gang, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Xzibit, which is due in theaters nationwide on September 15, 2006.

Beginning September 1 through September 23 the promotion offers Wahoo’s customers a chance to enjoy a private screening of Gridiron Gang with 30 of their closest friends, and win a Sony PlayStation® 2 and $500 worth of Under Armor clothing.

Columbia Pictures’ Gridiron Gang tells the uplifting story of detention camp probation officer, Sean Porter ("The Rock"), who creates a high-school-level football team from a ragtag group of dangerous teenage inmates as a means to teach them self-respect and social responsibility. He is joined in this experiment by co-worker, Malcolm Moore (Xzibit).

But Porter must first overcome almost universal resistance from the powers that be – his skeptical bosses and coaches at rival high schools – who don’t want their players mixing it up with convicted criminals on the football field.

Based on a true story, Gridiron Gang sends out a message that one man can make a difference and the most hopeless kids in our society can change the course of their lives through hard work, commitment and bold leadership.

“If you told me 20 years ago that three brothers, committed to an idea about a restaurant, could make something like Wahoo’s happen—well I wouldn’t have believed you” recounts Wahoo’s Marketing Director Ed Santos. “But it was the teamwork between Wing, Ed and Mingo, and a loyalty to the very principles the film addresses that made it happen. Wahoo’s thinks it is important to help promote that message to today’s youth.”

The promotion was crafted by creative marketing agency Buzztone, headquarter in Los Angeles, California.

In addition to the contest all Wahoo’s employees will be outfitted in co-branded Gridiron Gang t-shirts, and restaurant locations throughout California, Colorado, Texas and Hawaii will display Gridiron Gang collateral.
