Seoul, South Korea — Samsung Electronics said Monday (Oct. 23) that STMicroelectronics has licensed Samsung's most advanced flash memory, trademarked "OneNAND," to meet increasing demand in various applications including wireless.
According to the licensing agreement, STMicroelectronics will use Samsung's OneNAND starting early 2007.
OneNAND's architecture features NAND core with SRAM and logic elements to emulate a NOR flash interface. it delivers a sustained data read speed of 108 Mbytes/s, four times faster than conventional NAND flash, and a write speed of 10 Mbyte/s, according to Samsung.
The fast read and write speeds speed boot times and application launch times in mobile handsets and nonvolatile cache for PC applications.
