Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – (October 28, 2006) Gregory Williams the founder and organizer of the Philly Video and Computer Gamer Group Meetup has created a group where gamers can socialize in the real world. Greg is quoted as saying “Our group is all about getting together to discuss games off line as well as on. We have all kinds of gamers from people who like the classics to people who like the newest games on the market. We have hard core gamers and casual gamers to people who work in the industry. This group provides a social outlet for gamers to share tips and techniques and discuss the latest trends in what is hot and what is not and of course play games together”.
The group meets at a new local internet gaming café called Nube Link in Jenkintown and at Dave and Busters on the Delaware Riverfront in Philly. Gamers can join the group at this URL http://videogame.meetup.com/115 and RSVP to upcoming events. Joining the group is free but the various events may charge a fee for use of their services.
Rob Hof of Business Week says "What's driving all this togetherness? More than anything, an emerging generation of Net technologies. They include file-sharing, blogs, group-edited sites called wikis, and social networking services such as…Meetup.com,( See http://meetup.com) which has helped everyone from Howard Deaniacs to English bulldog owners in New York form local groups. Those technologies are finally teasing out the Net's unique potential in a way that neither e-mail nor traditional Web sites did. The Net can, like no other medium, connect many people with many others at the same time."
