The Laundry Alternative Inc. has come out with a
Spin Dryer which extracts as much water from the
clothes in only 2-3 minutes as a regular tumble
clothes dryer does in 30. Moreover, it only uses a maximum of 320 watts at startup (less than that when in motion), compared to a tumble dryer which normally uses somewhere in the range of 4,000-6,000 watts. In addition, the Spin Dryer is much gentler on clothes, whereas the heat and tumbling action of a conventional clothes dryer weakens fabrics such as cotton. As an added benefit, the Spin Dryer extracts more detergent and other chemicals from the clothing than conventional dryers.

The Spin Dryer has a 3200 revolutions per minute
spin cycle- many times faster than the spin cycle on a top loading washing machine, which is normally in the 500 rpm range. It does not have a heating element, so it does not get the clothes 100% dry. However, synthetics are often dry enough to wear right out of the spin dryer, and other fabrics are very close to dry. Many people use Spin Dryers in combination with their regular clothes dryers, as they cut about 30 minutes or more off the drying time along with the other above-mentioned benefits.

Used in this way, it can also significantly extend the life of a tumble dryer. Others use the Spin Dryer as a stand-alone dryer.
