Whoopi Goldberg (1955 - )
Whoopi was born Caryn Elaine Johnson in New York City. She worked a series of 'odd' jobs which included brick laying and working at a funeral palor while taking small roles on Broadway.
Whoopi Goldberg then moved to L.A. and started a career as a stand up comedienne. Her first prominant film part was in the 'The Color Purple" which also earned her an oscar nomination.
Whoopi Goldberg also had a reoccuring role on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and has hosted several of the Academy Award shows.
