Judicial Watch Disappointed in House Ethics Committee Report Concerning Rep. Mark Foley
(Washington, D.C.) -- Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton made the following statement regarding the House Ethics Committee report concerning the conduct of Rep. Mark Foley:
“The Foley scandal report is a bipartisan embarrassment and a sorry example of a Congress unwilling to hold its members and staff to account for misconduct. Rep. Foley was essentially stalking underage pages for over 10 years, and the only concern from his colleagues and staff was how this would impact Foley politically. How sad it is that the House committee investigating this matter comes to the laughable conclusion that the sexually-charged emails between Foley and a House page were handled in a matter that reflected credibly on the House of Representatives.
“The investigation revealed negligence, incredible stories, and sorry excuses made by members and staff, including the outgoing Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert. It is disgraceful that the House Ethics Committee makes excuses, rather than ensures accountability, for the misconduct it uncovered.”
