Since the problems of teen mental health issues hit close to home, the teen staffers of television program Swept Away TV organized a press conference for student journalists like themselves. The press event held February 10 at Fort Lauderdale’s Maya SW Grill, featured the national bands of the Take Action Tour; The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, A Static Lullaby, Scary kids Scaring Kids and Kaddisfly. Budding journalists asked questions, debated issues and took photographs and video for their school newspapers and television programs.
?The Take Action Tour, sponsored by Hot Topic, benefits The Youth America Hotline that provides counseling to young adults in crisis. Ronnie Winter, the lead singer of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, spoke at a recent press event in Washington DC, and detailed his efforts to become trained and certified as crisis intervention specialist in suicide prevention. Winter and the rest of Red Jumpsuit Apparatus took time with the Florida student journalists answering questions and explaining their role on the Take Action Tour.
Swept Away TV, which organized the press conference, provides mentoring and career training for at risk teens interested in the media fields. Swept Away TV is a not for profit 501c3 organized in 2000 and has created 7 seasons of teen produced television.
