(Los Angeles) - KDAY 93.5 FM sponsors the upcoming Los Angeles "Uplifting Minds II" Entertainment Conference. KDAY will host its national talent competition showcase. The competition showcase (in music/vocal, song writing and dance) is day two of the conference held Saturday/Sunday, March 3-4 at the Four-Point Sheraton at LAX.
KDAY is a Magic Broadcasting Company (Radio Companion, Inc.) home of comedian/actor Steve Harvey's morning show, legendary L.A. DJs Tha Goodfellas Show and American Idol's Randy Jackson weekend show.
In the 1980s KDAY's format included R&B and "West Coast Rap." It started as an AM radio station and is noted for helping to create the west coast rap prominence. Lead by music director Greg Mack, KDAY helped transform N.W.A. from an unknown local rap group to one of the most prolific Hip-Hop teams in the country. KDAY 93.5 also helped to launch the careers of Dr. Dre. Eventually it changed its format to cater to a more mature market, due mainly to the format change to Hip-Hop of KKBT.
In 2004 KDAY 93.5 came back with a vengeance launching a new campaign that announced a FM dial and a new format of "Hip-Hop Today and Back in the Day." Its goal is to cater to the mainstream urban market (today and past), targeting mainly African-Americans.
Signing former KKBT morning show host Steve Harvey, KDAY now finds itself the only Hip-Hop African-American targeted radio station because KKBT (The Beat) changed its format to again to a mature R&B. Currently the only other Hip-Hop formatted station in L.A. is KPWR, but its target audience is Hispanic, thus not a competitor.
The Sat/Sun., March 3-4, 2007 "Uplifting Minds II" Entertainment Conferences' seminars include "entertainment law tips" by Richard Jefferson, Esq.; "the music business" by producer/song writer Vaughan Mason; "artist development tips" by Noemi Torres A&R rep for SonyBMG International; "careers in film" by producer/director Tm Greene; "sponsorships, what companies are looking for" by Vernon Neilly CEO of Boosweet Enterprises and "public relations and promotions strategies" by Eunice Moseley promotions director of The Baltimore Times.
Judges for the competition showcase include radio personality Lee Bailey (EURWEB.com), producer Vaughan Mason (Roll Bounce), award winning guitarist Vernon Neilly; Randy Hankins, tour promoter; Ben Foster, film producer/director; Richard Jefferies, Esq., and A&R Reps Noemi Torres and Lamont Mayfield.
