Brandywine, MD (March 10, 2007) – The Unity Economic Development Corporation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Brandywine, MD. Unity’s mission is to “Promote Financial Empowerment and Community-Business Relationships.” Unity operates the HUD Homebuyers Education and Learning Program (HELP), conducts workshops, and provide one-on-one counseling sessions in financial literacy, money management, debt restructuring, foreclosure prevention and topics to prevent mortgage delinquency.

On Saturday, March 31, 2007, from 8 AM to 5 PM, Unity's HELP program will sponsor a FREE Home Ownership Workshop. This workshop will educate the community on budgeting and credit management in preparation to purchase a home, teach the community how to shop for a home, discuss the types of mortgages, the Fair Housing Laws and the RESPA, and teach the community about home inspections, insurance, and settlement costs. Finally, Unity will teach the community how to care for and maintain a home and how to avoid foreclosure.
