New York, NY – McCann Systems brings their AV expertise to “NHL Powered by Reebok”, the new NHL retail store located at 1185 Avenue of the Americas, in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. McCann Systems has helped to create a high energy, interactive shopping experience for players and fans at this 6,700 sq. ft. state-of-the-art flagship store. The store is also home to a Starbucks and an XM Satellite studio on the Mezzanine level.

Having tremendous expertise in both corporate and retail environments, McCann Systems was awarded the AV consultant position by the National Hockey League to develop audio visual concepts in sync with their recently revamped brand, “NHL in HD”. Originally hired as AV consultants for the build-out of the NHL corporate offices, located on the 11th through the 15th floors, McCann Systems was ultimately selected as a consultant for the street-level retail space. As a consultant, McCann worked closely with architects and planners on the design concept.

High-definition technology was a prevalent theme through out the design process, insuring that all AV design is consistent with the new NHL brand. This is especially evident in the retail space where dazzling technology-fueled displays bring hockey to life.

Impressive McCann AV integrated technologies include:

• A 15’ high x 6’wide LED video wall above the main entrance highlights images of NHL players and products. Located at the front of the store, in full view of Sixth Avenue foot and vehicle traffic, this LED “signage” demands attention. In addition, LED zippers scroll data across the exterior of the store. Both act to attract and invite passersby to enjoy this unique retail magnet.

• A floating hockey stick sculpture, made from 400 sticks, floats over the cash desk and is intertwined with McCann-integrated high-definition flat panel monitors. This remarkable melding of art and technology produces a dazzling exhibit.

• Creating an ever-changing display, three wall areas use programmable Gobo fixtures to highlight NHL team logos, as well as a Reebok, XM and Starbuck icons.

• Two interactive gaming kiosks permit visitors to play the newest NHL video games. A third kiosk serves as an NHL and Reebok e-commerce site.

• Flat panel screens at the in-store Starbucks.

• A high-end, full-range audio system.

• High-definition projector with motorized projection screen displays both live and pre-programmed content.


Within the corporate offices, located on the 11th through the 15th floors of above the street-level retail space, McCann Systems developed all aspects of audio visual design for public displays, corporate boardrooms and the “NHL Experience” theater.

Through McCann AV integration, broadcast interconnectivity is achieved between the NHL retail store and the NHL broadcast facility on the 13th floor. An AV connectivity panel, camera and microphone allow for in-store player interviews to be transmitted to the NHL studio upstairs for broadcast on their satellite channel. Likewise, a live game could be piped down to the store for viewing by customers.

Dataton’s Watchout compositing and production tool runs synchronized video. A Medialon show management system is utilized for on-off scheduling of area programs as well as for ad hoc, event based activities like a live hockey game, player interviews or a product launch.

The National Hockey League’s new “NHL Powered by Reebok” store in New York City has quickly become a retail magnet for shoppers and hockey enthusiasts, while NHL’s new corporate offices boast state-of-the-art high-definition technology and broadcast interconnectivity consistent with their redefined brand.
