Attendees will have a chance to connect with top Nevada employers seeking to provide gainful employment opportunities for individuals who are currently, or have previously been involved with the criminal justice system. CREATE assists ex-offenders with reentry back into society through developing gainful employment opportunities and promoting self-sufficiency while recognizing community safety. The agency congratulates prospective employers who recognize the need to improve the social and economic quality of life for ex-offenders, thus reducing rates of victimization and recidivism.
CSN, (College of Southern Nevada), working in collaboration with CREATE, will have a booth at the fair, providing job information to the ex-offender population as part of their Prison Programs operating under the Division of Workforce & Economic Development. HELP of Southern Nevada, Golden Nugget, and other key employers are expected to participate, providing employment information and conducting interviews.
“I am very enthusiastic about hosting a Job Fair for ex-offenders,” said Warren Morgan, Employment Liaison with the Department of Public Safety, Parole and Probation. “There is a major need for ex-offenders to find employment here in Las Vegas.”
Launched in May 2006, CREATE is an extensive reentry employment program which works collaboratively with the state of Nevada, faith-based organizations, and non-profit programs. CREATE’s efforts encompass:
• Employment Development Corners, a project encouraging ex-offenders to take advantage of educational and employment resources, a collaboration among the U.S. Probation Office in the District of Nevada, the local U.S. Pretrial Services Office, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP);
• Efforts by the U.S. Probation and Department of Justice to educate the community about the Defendant/Offender Workforce Development (DOWD) Program and re-entry;
• An established working relationship with FCI Herlong’s Release Preparation Program (RPP) and One Stop-Nevada Job Connect;
• A partnership with Western Apprenticeship Coordinators Association (WACA), which provides on-the-job training for construction workers, laborers, engineers, and craftsmen.
• Demonstrated efforts by Nevada Department of Public Safety, Division of Parole and Probation, Nevada Department of Corrections, and others.
