The Smart One is an aftermarket product for cellular phones that can be retrofitted in 30 seconds using a kit. The technology behind it is relatively simple and yet so efficient that it actually outperforms conventional cell phone batteries by delivering 300% more talk time.

In effect, a cellular phone using The Smart One will constantly charge as long as it is exposed to a light source. Unlike conventional batteries that use silicon cells, it uses plastic cells that retain full circuitry for faster and more efficient charging. The device has proven so effective that its inventor, claims he has not had to charge his own mobile phone using a conventional charger and wall outlet since March of 2008.

Simon Wilby believes the technology behind The Smart One will quickly find other practical applications for consumer gadgets and will have widespread implications for how consumers view solar power in general.

The same technology used in The Smart One should be just as easy to apply to the sundry of portable gadgetry we all use on a daily basis. The technology can easily be adapted for use with other mobile devices such as portable gaming consoles and laptops. In fact, he has already designed and patented a similar application of his design for use with laptops.

On a grander scale, plans are currently being made for a system of solar powered street lamps that could potentially save governments millions of dollars annually in electrical costs and provide light for remote villages throughout the world, while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
