Los Angeles – Rodney Mesriani, head of the Mesriani Law Group, has received an invitation to attend the 61st conference on social security law, which is sponsored by the prestigious National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR). This year’s conference was held at Hyatt Regency San Francisco from October 14 to 17.
The NOSSCR conference is an annual event joined in mostly by tens of thousands of social security and disability lawyers throughout the country to keep abreast of current social security law procedures, updates and new agency rules and regulation. The aim of this year’s convention is “to enhance practitioners’ skills in providing the highest quality representation for Social Security and SSI applicants”.
This year’s three-day conference included workshops on various important topics such as Social Security disability, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability, youth disability benefit issues, Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage), special education under the IDEA and social security disability benefits, among others. It also offered sessions on matters such as the “how to’s” of social security law practice and retirement issues.
Resource speakers for the workshop included legal luminaries like the Honorable Edmund Brennan and the Honorable Consuelo Callahan, SSA officials Lucille Meiss, (OGC/SSA, Region IX), Mary Barros Bailey, (chair of SSA Occupational Information Development Advisory Panel), Diana Andrews, (Deputy Associate Commissioner, Office of Disability Systems), Jo Armstrong (Associate Commissioner, Office of Electronic Services), Nancy Webb (Acting Deputy Associate Commissioner, Office of Income Security Programs), Joann Anderson (Director, Office of Payment and Claimant Representation Policy, Office of Income Security), Susan Brown,( e-Dib Project Coordinator, Office of Disability Adjudication & Review), Nancy Webb, (Acting Deputy Associate Commissioner, Office of Income Security Programs) and other social security law experts and medical and health care providers.
Speakers from the SSA discussed the agency’s electronic service and its ability “to provide a seamless and streamlined experience” for claimants through the Disability Direct initiative program of the agency. The initiative program is expected to automate the procession of on-line disability claims to the maximum extent possible, resulting in a much more direct route from application to payment. The new functionality of the SSA program includes an online registration process, access to electronic disability folders at the hearings level and other online features.
As one of LA’s top social security and disability lawyer who has been practicing for more than 15 years, Rodney Mesriani and associate members of his social security and disability legal team continuously upgrade their knowledge of social security law through various legal workshops such as the NOSSCR conference and apply the new information they gained.
