The Wangaratta Story, written by local Wangaratta & district historian, Mr. Bill O'Callaghan, is a marvellous local history of life in Wangaratta between the mid 1800's up to 2009.
The Wangaratta Story chronicles the history of Wangaratta from the time prior to when Major Mitchell and his party camped close to the junction of the Ovens and King Rivers, in North East Victoria in October 1836 to the present day.
Wangaratta has a great history of development since its inception and a large number of people have contributed to this development, through a range of activities and organisations, often in a voluntary capacity, making the Rural City the place it is today.
With an easy to read format, the book presents an overview of the growth of the city, through business, industry, local government, health, sport and service clubs.
Also looks at the history of the local aborignal community that settled in Wangaratta, written by Rhonda Diffey.
Includes a great chapter on the history of sport in Wangaratta, by - Kevin B. Hill.
